Celebration Ideas
Simple things go a LONG way!
These quick and easy ways to celebrate positive behaviors can be immediately implemented:
- High Fives
- Thumbs Up
- Smiles
- Winks
- Hugs
- Clapping
- Knuckles
- Silly dance

“I loved the way to put your shoes on so fast. You were done before I found my keys!”
“I was so proud of how you got dressed all by yourself this morning, I sent an email to Grandma. She was super impressed!”
Compliment
Be specific! Rather than a generic “good job”, let your child know exactly what you liked so that they are encouraged to do it again. Was it because they did it with a smile, were fast, careful, thorough? Did he or she do it without help or reminders?
Take a picture
Take a picture of your child doing desired behaviors and hang it on the fridge or email it to a special person (grandma). Make sure your child knows you did this!
Tell another adult about his/her success in front of your child.
“You wouldn’t believe how amazing Lauren has been today. She is following our new schedule. It has been a wonderful morning!”
Reward the extra time saved.
“You worked so hard to get ready this morning, we have 10 extra minutes to …” Suggest a favorite activity like read a book, play a game, dance, sing a song, or better yet let child choose activity.
Tell a parent about his/her success in front of the child.
“You wouldn’t believe how amazing Lauren has been today. She is following our new schedule. It has been a wonderful morning!”
Cheers at meal or snack time to celebrate.
State why you are proud of your child. Perhaps use special glasses or offer a special drink.
